Friends Of Southill Lower School (FoSLS)

Please let us introduce ourselves

Friends of Southill Lower School PTA, otherwise known as FoSLS, are a dedicated team of parents, carers, staff and others who all have the same goal: to raise funds to support the teachers in providing an excellent educational experience for all children who attend the school. We are a registered charity led by a Committee that run a schedule of events and initiatives throughout the academic year, with the aim of providing ongoing commitments as well as one off purchases for the school.

The Current FoSLS team are:

Bev Powell - Chair, Rachael Jones - Vice Chair, Holly Coulton - Treasurer, Kelly Quirk - Secretary, Gale Morley - Secretary, Sara Phillips - Secretary

Supported by a great group of parents, carers, teachers and locals we raised a significant amount for such as small school in the last academic year 2017/18 :  £4657

How was the money raised?

A fun packed schedule of events including our 2018 Summer Fair.

This is our major event of each year, with fun, games, music and food and takes place on the lovely school field. Last year we raised just over £2,000 from this event alone!

How did FoSLS support the school in the last academic year 2017/18?

By providing:

  • Christmas party lunch and present for all pupils
  • New water bottles for all children and every new pupil going forward
  • New book bags for every new pupil
  • Year 4 leavers hoodies
  • Transport to swimming lessons for Year 3 & 4
  • Daily fruit supply for pupils

Our Main Purchase for the last 2 academic years 2016/17 and 2017/18 - Interactive Whiteboards for each classroom.

3 interactive whiteboards were requested by the school to keep the children abreast of new technology. These were a significant but very important purchase for FoSLS at £7,000 for the three screens.

They have proved invaluable to the school and are used constantly by the pupils.

What are we fundraising for in 2018/9?

As well as the ongoing commitments of daily fruit supply and transport to swimming lessons the school have asked us for:

  • GroPro cameras for the children
  • Digital cameras for each teacher
  • Major contribution to the Christmas Panto trip in December 2019

Our Major expenditure for this year will be for the renovation of the playground. We are pleased to confirm we will be given the help and support from the local Rotary Club for this important initiative.

Stage 1 will involve the relocation of the much-loved Garden Club and will take place in February 2019.

How will we achieve our goals/commitments?

By undertaking an exciting  schedule of events. Some of the events that have taken place this academic year so far are:

1. Halloween Walk 2018: FoSLS organised a Halloween trail to make the most of the beautiful woods that the children have access to across from the school. Over 60 children attended and all were dressed up in fantastic costumes. We raised an impressive £170!

Feedback from the children. ”The Halloween Walk was so much fun.  I loved the scary bags of sweets as well. Can we do it again next year please?” Isla Jones Frost Year 1

2. Quiz Night November 2018. A well-attended event in which much fun was had and which raised £300.

3. Christmas Fair 2018. Raised £500 and was attended by none other than Belle and Rapunzel.

To come in 2019:

  • Easter colouring competition
  • Race night
  • Film night
  • Breakfast morning
  • Summer Fete - a public event so please everyone join us. Information to follow.
  • Cake sales galore!

What an exciting year ahead!
