Meet the Governors

Welcome to our Governors’ section

Governing Board: Shelton Lower School

On behalf of the governors, a very warm welcome to our school website and the information about governance.  Our purpose is to provide an outstanding education and excellent pastoral care for the whole school community.  We are committed to delivering an exciting and challenging curriculum made accessible to all in a caring, family school environment.

We work with school leaders and all staff to ensure that we provide the best possible education for all our pupils.

The Role and Responsibilities of the Governing Board
Governing boards are the key strategic decision makers and vision setters in every school, helping to set the school’s aims and values. In all types of schools, governing boards should have a strong focus on three core strategic functions:

  1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  2. Holding the head teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils; and
  3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Our Chair of Governors, Maxine Ward was appointed in June 2018 by the Local Authority. Maxine is a National Leader of Governance and brings considerable experience as a governor and Chair of Governors. Her passion for effective governance goes back to when she was a parent governor when her son started at a Lower School in 2003. She has since been a Chair in maintained schools and academies and is passionate about ensuring every single child receives the best possible education.

We are a small governing board meeting approximately 6 times per year.  Our constitution has nine governor positions as set out in the Instrument of Government.

Governors can be contacted through the office at Shelton Lower School.  sheltonoffice@sheltonandsouthillschool.co.uk
